FAQ's ETS & voluntary offset market

An Emissions trading scheme was proposed to be introduced in 2010 under Australia’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).  The start of this scheme was then delayed until 2011 - pending a second vote in the Senate in November 2009. Some amendments were made to the legislation, notably, that agriculture would not be included - although farmers can participate by planting forests and receiving credits.

The legislation was once again rejected and the government has given the opposition another chance to pass it through in a third vote in February.

There remains considerable uncertainty around whether or not we will have a emissions trading scheme in Australia, a carbon tax, or some other policy in the near future.

Once we are fully informed about developments we will work to post FAQs on the impact of the scheme on the voluntary market, business and Carbon Neutral.
