The Reedy Creek site is 9.2 hectares of privately owned land, formerly used as farmland. It is approximately 2.5km from the River Murray. The property will be direct seeded in June 2007 on two land areas immediately above the flood plain of Reedy Creek.
The landholder is keen to see the area returned to local provenance bushland, providing bio-diverse habitat for flora and fauna, as well as addressing dry-land salinity, soil erosion and water quality issues in the River Murray Catchment.
Birdwood
3 hectares of this 9ha privately owned site at Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills will be planted by direct seeding in the 2007 season with an overstorey of Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River Red Gum).
The site is directly adjacent the Cromer Conservation Park, and the local provenance, multi-storey revegetation will link the remnant vegetation of the park, with remnants on the property, providing increased natural habitat and corridors for the local wildlife. 2007 will be the first of three years of plantings on this property.
Flaxley
In 2007, Trees For Life carried out revegetation on 6 hectares of this private landholding in the Flaxley region, 9 kilometres south-west of Mt Barker.
Due to the steep nature of the land, a combination of hand and machine direct seeding will be used, followed by tube-stock inter-planting in 2008. Further revegetation will be carried out in 2008 and 2009 on adjoining areas of the property. The species associations here include Eucalyptus obliqua (Messmate stringy bark) woodland and Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River red gum) along the valley floor.
