Carbon Neutral and CCI invite members and guests to attend a seminar which will provide practical information and case studies on how effective carbon reduction strategies can lead to cost savings for your business. It will demonstrate how to leverage environmental action to gain a competitive advantage, outline the business case for sustainability and highlight risks & opportunities for green marketing and “green wash”. It will cover the impact regulatory schemes such as a carbon tax, emissions trading scheme or mandatory reporting will have on your organisation and strategies your business can implement to reduce impacts and take advantage of opportunities.
Learn from industry experts such as Wesfarmers Sustainability Manager Cameron Schuster and network with peers from a range of industries. The seminar runs from 9am - 12pm and includes morning tea, sessions on a range of topics from five industry experts, a Q&A session, and the chance to learn about the proposed carbon tax and how it will affect your business.

Managing energy price increases while dealing with potential carbon constraints
Cameron Schuster is currently the Sustainability Manager for Wesfarmers Limited and in the past was Manager for Environment and Manufacturing Support at CSBP Limited (a subsidiary of Wesfarmers Limited).
Prior to that Cameron has had 22 years of experience in the Western Australian public sector in a variety of land and forest management, nature conservation, disability services, human resource, finance and senior waste management/environment protection roles. Cameron is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability, Murdoch University and holds a degree in Forest Science and a Grad Dip. in Business.

It ain’t easy being green: green & environmental marketing risks
Michael is a leading WA based lawyer working with the legal and strategic issues for the evolving Australian and global new ‘clean’ & ‘green’ economy. He has a particular focus on climate change issues, including green marketing. Michael is excited by the green economy opportunities and works to help businesses prepare for and succeed in this new world. He specialises in helping innovative businesses get things done, especially clearing government hurdles. Michael also completed the Busselton Ironman triathlon in December 2010.

Practical strategies to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of your business
Ben has a thorough knowledge of climate-related issues and its application to energy efficiency and carbon management. He has a proven track record of managing many successful sustainability and energy efficiency projects for business, local government and non-government organisations within Australia and internationally. Ben holds a degree in Environmental Science, certification from the British Research Establishment and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and is currently completing a Post Graduate Diploma (Energy Studies) at Murdoch University.

What are the key issues for business in WA?
Margaret is the Senior Policy Adviser for Climate Change and Environment at the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Margaret was formerly Principal Policy Adviser for Sustainability for the Western Australian Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. She oversaw the development of key state and national strategies, such as the Climate Change, Environment and Energy paper developed for the Australian Transport Commission’s National Transport Policy Framework. During this time Margaret was an adviser to the Western Australian Water and Climate Change Cabinet Subcommittee, and a member of the Water and Climate Change Senior Officers Group. Margaret has also worked extensively as a sustainability consultant. With HAC Australia, she worked with business and government clients with a particular focus on climate change and energy efficiency.

Chris has a business management background and has worked in the environment and carbon sectors in Australia and overseas for 6 years. Chris has a thorough working knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, carbon trading and compliance, legislation and standards and the business case for sustainability. Chris is also an accomplished public speaker and presenter and regularly presents at seminars and workshops for businesses around Australia on these subjects. Chris is currently undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability. |
