Carbon Hero of the month: David Wake Print Digg Digg Facebook Facebook Twitter

15 August 2011

David Wake helps organisations reduce the car trips by their employees and clients and promote sustainable travel choices
(like cycling, public transport and teleworking). Reduced carbon emissions from commute and business trips are an important
outcome of theTravelSmart Workplace program - run by the Department of Transport and Department of Environment and Conservation.

David lives at Quinns Rocks and commutes by train, using the trip to read. "We are a family of five but our carbon footprint
is modest," he says. "Being careful with energy use at home, photovoltaics on the roof, managing with one car, a vegetarian
diet and taking holidays in WA helps limit our greenhouse gas emissions, though we aim to reduce them further."

He is active in his local environment group with bushcare projects and raising community awareness on climate change
(including a community meeting on the topic in October). David is also on the Conservation Council of WA's executive committee.
