| Our organisation wants to offset emissions for the first time. How do we do it? |
|
|
|
 |
| You will need to estimate the tonnes of carbon dioxide or equivalent greenhouse gases (CO2e) that you wish to offset. As a company we encourage you to measure your emissions over the last year (a 12 month period) to establish a baseline for your organisation’s emissions and then donate to offset that amount. Going forward you should take action to reduce your emissions while keeping data records from emissions sources and offset again every 12 months. Carbon Neutral has tools to help you measure your emissions, or you can nominate an amount you would like to offset. Some organisations will choose to offset certain sectors of emissions such as fleet, electricity, or airline travel for example. |

How should we calculate our emissions? |
|
|
There are two convenient ways to calculate your organisation’s emissions:
1. Four Step Carbon Reduction Programme
This is a comprehensive carbon management process designed to help you understand your carbon footprint, engage staff and identify the practical and cost effective actions that will reduce your contribution to climate change. 2. Carbon Neutral emissions calculator for organisations
Carbon Neutral can provide an Excel spreadsheet calculator to help you estimate your emissions or you can visit http://www.carbonneutral.com.au/calc/ to use the online version.
Our calculator covers emissions from the following sources:
waste fleet (also covers fuel combustion in any vehicle/machinery(fuel type per litre) staff travel (vehicles or public transport) energy (electricity, gas, natural gas, refrigerants airline flights consumables (paper and ink, hospitality expenses, freight) special events (offline spreadsheet calc only)

We can't calculate our emissions but we would like to make a contribution, what should we do? |
|

There are three key ways you can support us:
1. Donate to offset a specified number of tonnes of emissions
- We offset emissions for $19 / tonne. Choose the amount you would like to offset

2. Donate to plant trees for revegetation
- We plant trees for $3.20 each. You can simply donate to plant a number of trees once off or on a regular basis.
- You can Value Add to a product or service by making a commitment to plant trees per product sold, or service delivered.
3. Make a financial donation to Carbon Neutral.
- This can be a once off or regular commitment.
- We will use this money to continue planting trees for revegetation in rural areas

We want to help rehabilitate land, not offset emissions |
|
|
Some organisations want to donate trees to help the environment, rather than specifically to offset emissions. These trees or shrubs are allocated to sites where they will provide multiple environmental benefits and sequestration is of secondary importance.
We plant trees for $3.20 each. You can simply donate to plant a number of trees once off or on a regular basis. You can Value Add to a product or service by making a commitment to plant trees per product sold, or service delivered

Can we create our own forest sink to generate certified carbon offsets or permits in the future?
|
|
|
Yes, if you have sufficient quantity. Carbon Neutral is interested in discussing options with any organisations who would like to invest in carbon sinks now to hedge against a future carbon liability in the future. Please contact us to discuss this in more detail.

What does it mean to be carbon neutral? |
|
|
The phrase ‘carbon neutral’ is used when an individual or organisation is responsible for zero greenhouse gas emissions, measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents or CO2e. This may include legacy emissions from past activities and embodied emissions in goods, services, products and facilities owned or controlled by the organisation.
Carbon neutrality is very difficult to achieve for an organisation or a product and we do not endorse or certify claims of being carbon neutral. We can, however, help organisations measure, reduce and offset emissions to rigorous standards depending on the desires of the organisation.

What other ways can we contribute to the environment? |
|
|
Working with Carbon Neutral you can choose to:
* Encourage staff, suppliers and contractors to offset their emissions.
* Provide a salary sacrifice program so that staff members can make regular contributions to offset or to plant trees
* Send ecards and plant trees at Christmas time
* Use Gift Certificates and plant trees at the same time

| Are discounts available for large quantities of offset? |
|
|
| No, Carbon Neutral maintains a low price for everyone and is not for profit so any surplus is also directed to the benefit of the environment. |

If we support Carbon Neutral, can we use the Carbon Neutral logo?
|
|
|
Yes provided you have reached the minimum level to become a Green Supporter. Organisations can become Green Supporters by donating to offset a minimum 20 tonnes or to plant 120 trees for revegetation.
