Men of the Trees is an
independent, not for profit, non-government organisation that has
already planted millions of trees throughout Australia.
The organisation was founded in Kenya by Dr. Richard St Barbe Baker in
the 1920s, to plant and care for trees in order to save tribal land
from turning into desert. The organisation has been active in Australia
since 1979 and today has thousands of members who grow and plant
hundreds of thousands of trees every year.

Men of the Trees specialises in growing native Australian species for habitats right around Australia, helping to maintain nature's biodiversity and maintaining the natural integrity of the local areas.
Men of the Trees volunteers have one objective – to plant trees to enrich the Earth and its great planetary systems of woodlands and forests.
Men of the Trees has planted millions of trees across Australia since its inception more than 25 years ago. The Carbon Neutral program aims to plant hundreds of thousands of trees in Australia every year to help offset the effects of cars, air travel and energy use.

A Government Forestry Officer, Dr Richard St
Barbe Baker was concerned for the rapidly decreasing fertility of the land.
He believed it was necessary to plant more trees to combat the shifting
methods of agriculture. He initiated the idea of voluntary tree planting by
the native tribesmen of the highlands of Kenya. The activity was most
successful and the highlanders became known as forest planters instead of
forest destroyers.

The concept spread to England in 1924 and since then branches have developed
in many parts of the world, bringing together tree-conscious men, women and
children.
