The owners of this property want to revegetate all areas of the property to reduce the spread of salinity. The property is located east of Ballidu, north of Perth. It is a small wheat and sheep property with a large drainage system running through the middle that is becoming more salty each year.

The 47,000 mixed native seedlings will be planted on behalf of the Water Corporation to offset their fleet vehicles. The seedlings will act as a large carbon sink and a large water sink where excess water will be used, drying out the property and reducing the spread of salinity.

April 2008 update

This site was hit hard by the 2007 drought. The inspection in November, showed the seedlings doing very well, with an 82% success rate. However, with no rain over the establishment period, seedlings suffered, with around 10% surviving by the second visit in February. The site is to be infill planted this winter replacing, 43,000 trees.

Hines Hill

Hines Hill is a small location west of Merredin along the Great Eastern Highway. The wheat and livestock farm is in need of many trees for many different environmental problems.

The 20,000 mixed native seedlings will be used as wind breaks, to dry out water logged areas that are prone to become salty and to increase the biodiversity of the area by creating a wildlife corridor along a drainage line. This line runs through most of the property and is becoming degraded from both water and wind erosion due to the instability of the soil. The planting is to be held in mid July and used as an educational site for many young people who may not have experienced the environmental challenges in dryland agriculture.
