Further Product Information

For All Tree Planting Products
*  Carbon Neutral endeavours not to take good agricultural land out of production and intends to improve the long term agricultural sustainability of the land.
*  Revegetation and carbon projects will be protected with a legal agreement registered on the certificate of title for a period of 70-100 years.
*  The plantings are monitored regularly i.e. 3 times in the first year, then annually until the planting reaches 5 years of age, in order to manage any issues which may affect survival including weeds and pests.
*  Carbon Neutral will infill or replant if significant losses occur during the first two years. However, where there is less than 60% survival rate, Carbon Neutral will assess the site to determine the cause and if it is appropriate to replant.
*  Plantings will be conducted during winter months and no later than eighteen months after the donation is made. If due to unforseen circumstances this is not possible, supporters will be notified.
*  The assessment of survival and requirement to infill is made within one year from initial planting and will be at the discretion of Carbon Neutral. Carbon Neutral will consider the outcomes of carbon sequestration or land rehabilitation when considering infill planting in subsequent years.
*  A minimum of 10% of plantings are kept as a buffer or insurance against losses. Losses may occur as a result of drought, fire, pests, disease or other unforeseen circumstance.
*  In the case of catastrophic loss, at a given site or numerous sites, Carbon Neutral will endeavour to replant subject to risk assessment and financial constraints.
*  Carbon Neutral reserves the right to not replace significant losses at its discretion.

Biodiversity Plantings
*  This product is similar to what Carbon Neutral has offered for the past seven years, with added security and improved estimation of sequestration. Mixed biodiversity tree plantings in WA and SA agricultural areas can provide multiple environmental benefits.
*  A minimum of four native tree species such as eucalyptus, acacias, melaleucas and allocasuarinas are planted with up to 10% understorey species where appropriate to enhance biodiversity, habitat and ecosystem benefits.
*  The plantings are often along stream lines and lower slopes above saline areas, helping to stabilize stream banks, lower saline water tables, improve water quality and reduce salinity.

Oil Mallee Plantings
*  These plantings comprise one or two native oil mallee eucalypt species, planted either in 10m (minimum) wide alleys or in blocks on dry-land cropping and grazing farms.
*  The mallees may be harvested after 5 years at 4 yearly intervals for biomass and mallee oils. The sequestered carbon remains in the large, woody lignotubers and extensive root systems of these species. After harvest, the trees re-grow rapidly. Periodic harvest ensures that the rate of carbon sequestration in the lignotubers and roots is maximized.
*  Harvested wood from the stems and branches may be used in the future as a renewable fuel in biomass power stations which could further reduce greenhouse gas emissions if the biomass power stations replace coal fired power stations.

Dislaimer:
Carbon sequestration for native trees is projected over a 100 year period and many factors will affect actual sequestration e.g. rainfall, drought, pests, soil conditions.  Carbon Neutral Ltd. estimates carbon sequestration based on computer modelling and local knowledge and cannot be held responsible if actual carbon sequestration differs from the estimated projected sequestration.
