This planting of over 108,000 oil mallees is to offset the emissions of approx 7300 state fleet vehicles. The property is located near Mullewa in the north of the WA wheatbelt. The intended planting area is 65ha.
Soil types across the property are suitable for mallee growth being fairly uniform throughout in type, pH and general characteristics. In addition, salinity on the property in the intended plantable areas is negligible.
| Existing mallee plantings on the site are healthy and vigorous indicating the site to be very suitable for this project. Mallee plantings will be established in belts of 10m width, approximately 100m apart based on the expected sustainability of the site and so not to compromise the agricultural enterprise. |

The City of Belmont has funded 2000 trees for the past two years for a site at Garvey Park.
The planting is part of an ongoing project by the City to rehabilitate land that not only has environmental benefits to the site but also offers a natural bush setting for urban dwellers to enjoy.

The project includes a biodiversity corridor that follows a drain coming from the Perth Airport remaking it into a very natural looking stream. These seedlings will also act in up taking the carbon dioxide emissions produced by the City’s light vehicle fleet for 2006.
The site is located between last year’s Carbon Neutral’s planting of 2000 seedlings and previous revegetation work completed by the environmental department at the City of Belmont. Although the seedlings are heavily protected from most harmful weather conditions it can be subject to waterlogging if heavy rains occur due to the clay soils. |

| The site is in an excellent condition and mulching has suppressed weeds contributing to a welcome 80% survival rate. |

1150 seedlings are being provided for this project on behalf of Savings and Loans SA. The seedlings are being grown locally by Trees for Life and will be planted in partnership for Conservation Volunteers Australia
The site is called Uleybury, based between Smithfield and Gawler and known as the Smithfield planting site. It is managed by Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) and is comprised of an old quarry and surrounding native grassy woodland environment.
| Although the site has been grazed and cleared, there are still many examples of remnant native vegetation including rated plant species. The surrounding areas are used for grazing and cropping and have minimal native vegetation remaining. Hence the Smithfield site is an excellent potential key site for future revegetation / restoration works. |
